Milton Keynes University Hospital

Improving staff, patient and visitor experience.

noviniti has been working with Northampton General Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to support their strategy of improving the staff, patient and visitor experience at Northampton General Hospital. The project culminated in July 2021 when the doors to the new Main Entrance were opened.

The first phase of the project saw an extensive infrastructure works improvement package that included diverting the existing road and changes to car parking areas. These changes enabled the construction of the new Intensive Trauma Unit which the Main Entrance facility links to.

The second phase of the project was the creation of the 9400ft2 new Main Entrance which has been designed to be a focal point for the hospital. Working in partnership with the Trust and our partners, Seddon and Compass Group UK&I, the new Main Entrance realises the Trust’s vision of improving the staff, patient and visitor retail and restroom facilities delivered in a contemporary and comforting environment.

A new concourse guides people through the Main Entrance to a welcoming and dynamic reception area. The Main Entrance is furnished with recognised high street brands to cater for customers’ needs throughout the day and includes M&S Food, Costa Coffee, Subway and StockShop, all of which are ideally suited to the healthcare sector. These retail stores offer their customers more than just great food, beverages, fashion and gifts; they are a safe, welcoming and relaxing space enabling escape and refuge from the clinical environment and they help reinforce the positive perception of outstanding clinical services already provided by the Trust.

“The New Main Entrance provides a focal point for our patients. It allows us to set up a main reception area with all the facilities you would expect from a modern hospital so the patients feel welcome and signposted so they can find their way around easily. Compass is an organisation that knows what we want, that understands that we don’t have bottomless pockets and has genuinely worked with us to get the best deal for our hospital.”

“The financing, the design work, and even the facilities going into that main entrance have been discussed, negotiated and I think we’ve come up with the best deal for our patients and for our staff.”
