Royal Albert Edward Infirmary
Noviniti is delighted to have partnered with Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, alongside our construction partner Goldbeck, to design, fund, and deliver a new 356-space multi-storey car park (MSCP) at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary (RAEI).
The Trust identified that existing parking provision for patients and visitors required significant improvement, both to enhance the overall patient experience and to alleviate traffic congestion across the hospital site and surrounding residential areas.
The new MSCP has been constructed on the footprint of a former surface car park, within an area surrounded by residential properties. As such, careful consideration was given to the design to ensure the structure integrates sympathetically with the surrounding conservation area. This included thoughtful selection of cladding and brickwork to complement the local environment.
Construction commenced in April 2025, with the facility becoming operational in January 2026. The project has delivered 356 dedicated parking spaces for patients and visitors within the MSCP, alongside an additional 64 surface spaces for Trust staff.
The development has also enabled the Trust to significantly improve accessibility, with the introduction of 21 additional Blue Badge spaces, ensuring those requiring closer proximity to hospital facilities are better accommodated.
Management of the new MSCP, along with the wider car parking portfolio across the Trust, is now overseen by Group Nexus.
The completed MSCP is a highly functional, modern, and well-designed facility. It incorporates electric vehicle charging infrastructure, supporting the Trust’s journey towards Net Zero, and features external cladding designed to reduce light spill and glare. The scheme also prioritises safety, security, and ease of use for all visitors.

The new multi-storey car park includes:
- 356 parking spaces for patients and visitors, with an additional 64 staff spaces on the adjacent surface car park
- Electric vehicle charging infrastructure to support sustainable travel
- A design that complements the surrounding conservation area
- A modern, bright environment with clear directional signage
- One-way vehicle circulation and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) ticketing to improve traffic flow
